welcome to sugar! i’m alyx and here at sugar is where i dedicate all my time and creative energy into making fun and exciting dessert recipes and tutorials to share with you. here you will find all kinds of recipes; from cookies to cake and even ice cream too! there’s always going to be something that will entice your sweet tooth here because it is all sugar!
every recipe is different. i love experimenting with flavors and complexity when it comes to dessert. some things are simple and basic while others are unique and contain different flavor profiles, like my banana curry ice cream! which is delish by the way! nothing is the same and there is always a wide variety where you may find something you’ll love or that will make you curious and want to give it a try.
some fun things i offer here on sugar are fun courses for you to try out! learn how to edible print in your own home if you are a hobby home baker and get creative with your own desserts to wow your friends and family! or you can even go to my little shop i have on here and get yourself a yummy chocolate bar or one of the many books that i’ve published over the past few years! there’s really anything and everything that you’ll be able to find here.
a little about me! my name is alyx and i grew up in a very small town in rural north dakota, but who am i kidding, everywhere in north dakota is rural! it was a childhood where i grew up eating toaster strudel for breakfast and drinking strawberry milk on the farm with my grandparents or making cheesecake with my mom for christmas. i even went as far as begging my babysitter to make chocolate chip cookies almost every day!
i’ve always had a sweet tooth and it continued to grow over the years and turned into wanting to learn how to bake cookies and then eventually i moved on to wanting to learn everything cake related! food network and pinterest were my sources of creativity and obsession to learn all that i could before i eventually went off to culinary school to learn all that i could about baking and pastry arts.
after graduating culinary school, i lived in minneapolis for a few years working my way through a hotel and a restaurant that specialized in wedding cakes. overtime you need a change of scenery (or to get away from all the snow, yuck!) which led me to getting a job down south in nashville, tennessee where i currently work at a high end hotel. being down south even gave me more opportunities to grow my business further by doing farmers markets and meeting all kinds of new people who are interested in what i’m sharing with everyone in terms of sugar.
